In 1888 Louisa Lawson published the first edition of Dawn: A Journal for Australian Women (1888-1905), a popular magazine published by women for women in the lead up to Federation.
Other influential magazines included: the Interpreter, the Spectator, the Australian Woman’s Magazine and Domestic Journal, Maybanke Susannah Wolstenholme’s Woman’s Voice, and Vida Goldstein’s Woman’s Sphere.
Several of these publications, including of Dawn: A Journal for Australian Women, centred upon the campaign for female suffrage in Australia.
